Confidence, leadership, playfulness, creativity—these are all skills that improve with practice (not simply traits that you either have or you don’t). Val takes audiences on a music-filled journey toward more creative leadership, illustrated by bold stories from her own life as well as astounding lessons from one of the greatest leaders in history, Ernest Shackleton.
This empowering presentation, with its emphasis on mindset, story and expression to uplift and connect people, is perfect for organizations looking to ignite innovation and teamwork and cultivate truly creative, optimistic leaders.
Val Vigoda is a prolific Disney songwriter, and a former Army lieutenant. She’s also a violinist turned rebel rocker who toured the world with Cyndi Lauper, and writer/star of multiple award-winning musicals produced in New York and around the world. She has even opened for icons including Michelle Obama and Magic Johnson, and toured with Joe Jackson and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Shredding a six-string electric violin, she formed the acclaimed indie band GrooveLily, which put out eight albums as they toured relentlessly for over a decade.
Then they wrote a breakout Off-Broadway hit musical the New York Times hailed as "exhilarating." That led to a long relationship with Disney, who tapped them first to adapt Toy Story into a musical for Disney Cruise Line, and then to write over 20 new songs for their theme parks and animated films.
She has won the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Musical, the Ovation Award for Best Musical, the ASCAP Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre, and the Jonathan Larson Award (in honor of the creator of RENT).
Val is an honors graduate of Princeton University, and has taught at Stanford, Emerson College, Berklee College of Music and the University of Washington.
She lives in Los Angeles with her son Mose, with whom she makes epic and terrible rap battles while washing dishes.
